Wakefield Park saw the track debut of Australian motorsports newest competition concept, the Pirelli Gran Turismo Championship, with a number of competitors firing their opening shots for the 2008 season in anger in what would be the first of the nine round series.

IMSA Challenge by Michelin Porsche Race Preview

The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA), Porsche Motorsport North America (PMNA), and Michelin have taken the successful IMSA Challenge by Michelin and expanded it again for 2008. Beginning with the American Le Mans Series' Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring weekend , the IMSA Challenge (renamed from the IMSA GT3 Challenge) will run 14 races at seven venues and will expand into two classes to attract even more participation.

Team Modena Ready for British GT Challenge


Team Modena should have a strong season in the British GT this year

Team Modena head into their first full season of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship with confidence high after the pace and performance their Lamborghini Gallardo displayed in its initial outings last year. Setting three lap records in what was very much a learning half-season, the rapid Italian supercar was right on the race pace in the final rounds, and should be one of the cars to beat when the series kicks off at Oulton Park on Easter weekend.

Pierre-Brice Mena to race in FIA GT3 in 2008

Talented young French driver Pierre-Brice Mena will be heading for the FIA GT3 European Championship in 2008, where he will drive a Hexis Racing Aston Martin DBR9. His team-mate will be another young Frenchman, Thomas Accary, who will also be making his GT debut. This team of 'rookies' are likely to be among the youngest on the grid, as their combined ages just reach 40 ! It will be a steep learning curve for Pierre-Brice, with five out of the six tracks new to him, but he is looking forward to the challenge !

Muhlner Motorsport Announces GT3 plans

Successful Belgian team Mühlner Motorsport - a class-winner in the Total 24 Hours of Spa - has announced that it intends to enter two Porsche cars in the 2008 season of the FIA GT3 European Championship.

Matech has announced one of its driver parings for 2008

Notwithstanding the fact that the European FIA GT3 championship only kicks off in Silverstone at the end of April, people and cars are already being readied for this first round. It is in Matech’s new infrastructures, close to the Nürburgring, that the Ford GT’s are being prepared, and the Swiss team has just officially announced its first driver-pairing. The Italian Luca Pirri and the German Jürgen von Gartzen will share one of the cars and bear the Matech GT Racing banner throughout the entire season.

Facts and Figures: This is the American Le Mans Series

The American Le Mans Series (ALMS) was created in 1999. The regulations are based on the rules of the Le Mans 24 hour race. This season eleven rounds will be contested in the USA and Canada. The traditional highlights of the year are the Sebring 12 hour race and the 1,000 mile "Petit Le Mans" race in Road Atlanta. Most races run over 2.45 hours. The ALMS is the American counterpart to the European-based Le Mans Series (LMS).
