Oschersleben: Mercedes Struggle Through Qualifying


Paffet will line up sixth

Bruno Spengler (Mercedes-Benz Bank AMG C-Class), Paul Di Resta (AMG Mercedes C-Class) and Jamie Green (Salzgitter AMG Mercedes C-Class) will start Sunday's second round of the 2008 DTM in Oschersleben from grid positions five, six and seven respectively. In Saturday's qualifying, Spengler was the fastest C-Class driver with a 1m21.718, four thousandths of a second behind the second row. Di Resta was on a 1m21.740 whilst Green set a 1m21.757; all three drivers were within 39 thousandths of a second.

Jarvis qualified strongly to reach fourth

Ingolstadt/Oschersleben – For the seventh time in a row, Audi starts from the pole position in the DTM. As at the Hockenheim season opener a week ago, the new Audi A4 DTM cars fielded by Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline were in a class of their own in qualifying at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. Timo Scheider, Tom Kristensen and Martin Tomczyk clinched grid positions one to three for Audi. Youngster Oliver Jarvis in Audi Sport Team Phoenix’s A4 from last year in fourth position ensured that the first two rows on the grid are firmly in Audi’s hands on Sunday.

The two 20-minute qualifying sessions at Silverstone produced very mixed grids – six different makes in the top six positions in both sessions. Making the most of the cold, windy but dry conditions Mikael Forsten claimed the pole for Race 1 in the No.36 Prospeed Racing Porsche 997 GT3 Cup S, while Thomas Mutsch took pole in the second session in the No.20 Matech GT Racing Ford GT.
