The battle in Australian sportscar racing is now in the courts

GT Racing in Australia is at crisis point. Over the last week the Australian GT Championship has gone into a tail spin which threatens its existence and the integrity of GT racing in Australia.

The Australian GT Championship are confident of their continual existence and claim to have “some very exciting prospects for 2009”.

But the rest of the tale does not look so rosy.

Oschersleben: Podium for Mercedes


Schumacher struggled again

Bruno Spengler (Mercedes-Benz Bank AMG C-Class) finished the second round of the 2008 DTM in Oschersleben in third place and was the best C-Class driver. His HWA team mates Paul Di Resta (AMG Mercedes C-Class) and Jamie Green (Salzgitter AMG Mercedes C-Class) came home fourth and fifth respectively.

Ingolstadt/Oschersleben – Second race, second triumph: the new Audi A4 DTM could not be beaten in its second race either. One week after the 1-2-3 exploit at Hockenheim, Timo Scheider and Martin Tomczyk clinched a commanding 1-2 victory for Audi at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. By claiming the maiden victory of his DTM career, Scheider has taken the overall lead as well.

Long Beach, Calif. (April 20, 2008) – In front of ecstatic friends and family, Huntington Beach driver Brandon Davis took his first SCCA SPEED GT win at his home race, the SCCA Pro Racing Long Beach SPEED GT Presented by Applied Computer Solutions. Point leader Randy Pobst, of Gainesville , Ga. , and Andy Pilgrim, of Boca Raton , Fla. , finished second and third, respectively.

Frequent light rain resulted in an action-packed opening to the 2008 FIA GT3 Championship, with many drivers being caught out and furious action throughout the field. When the chequered flag fell it was the No.20 Matech GT Racing Ford GT of Ian Khan and Thomas Mutsch who had triumphed - an unlikely victory after Khanhad completely stopped on the opening lap to avoid a spinning car.

The conditions were truly appalling

The 2008 season of the FIA GT Championship got off to the best possible way, with a truly thrilling Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy in Silverstone. Despite the extremely poor weather, with heavy fog and rain, which improved later, 25,000 spectators turned up to watch the exciting programme, which included the FIA GT3 European Championship, the GT4 European Cup and the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli.
