Paul Di Resta finished the 10th round of the 2008 DTM at Le Mans in second place, reduced the gap to the overall leader Timo Scheider (Audi) who came home sixth today to two points and postponed the championship decision until the season finale on 26th October in Hockenheim.

Ingolstadt/Le Mans – At Le Mans, Audi celebrated their fifth DTM victory of the season with Mattias Ekström, and with Alexandre Prémat, at the latter’s home race, the first podium result of a year-old car in the current season. Timo Scheider defended the lead of the standings with a two-point advantage – the title decision from an extremely thrilling starting base will therefore be made at the finale at Hockenheim three weeks from now. The constantly changing intensity of the rain turned the tenth round into a lottery and thus the most action-packed race of the season so far: only four of the 19 drivers came in for the two mandatory pit stops, all other classified drivers pitted three, and two drivers even as much as four times.

The weekend could not have ended better for Ruffier and Peyroles

The tension is rising in the FIA GT3 European Championship as the series heads towards a climax – and as it does, so the on-track dramas become ever more intense. James Ruffier and Arnaud Peyroles have first-hand experience of those dramas; on Saturday at Nogaro the duo, driving the No.1 Martini Callaway Racing Corvette Z.06R GT3, were forced out of a podium finish by a problem with the differential - but on Sunday they claimed victory and the overall lead of the Championship. They led home the No.29 AutoGT Racing Morgan Aero 8 GT3 of Johan-Boris Scheier and Gaël Lesoudier, with the No.21 Matech GT Racing Ford GT of Alex Mortimer and Bradley Ellis in third.

Vilander and Bruni became the GT2 Champions at Nogaro

Consistency paid off in Nogaro today, where tyre wear proved to be a determining factor in the eighth round of the FIA GT Championship. The 3.636 km circuit, with its great variety of corners, saw the nr 2 Vitaphone Maserati MC 12 of Alexandre Negrao and Miguel Ramos claim victory, finishing five seconds ahead of the two Phoenix Carsport Corvette C6R cars. In GT2, victory went to the Prospeed Competition Porsche 997 GT3 RSR of Westbrook and Davison, but Gianmaria Bruni and Toni Vilander, who inherited third, scored enough points to secure the title – the third Drivers title for AF Corse in three years – as well as the GT2 Teams title.

Risi had to fight to win, but they put in a sterling effort to win

Risi Competizione’s #62 has staged a tremendous fight back into contention for a GT2 win after losing two laps in the early stages of the race due to a freak mechanical problem. A small broken part from a drinks bottle connecter came loose and lodged itself temporarily under the throttle. The problem was detected and resolved, but required two extra pit stops.

It was a difficult day for Farnbacher Loles, even if they did show their pace

Farnbacher Loles Racing led the GT2 class and held a top-two position for most of the first half of the Petit Le Mans, second-last race of the 2008 American Le Mans Series season.
