Le Mans: Green Just Misses Pole in Tight Session

Jamie Green (Salzgitter AMG Mercedes C-Class) will start tomorrow's 10th and penultimate round of the 2008 DTM at Le Mans from the front row of the grid. In Saturday's close fought qualifying, Green was second with a time of 1m30.229; eight hundredths of a second outside the pole position time of Tom Kristensen (Audi/1m30.149).

Ingolstadt/Le Mans – After qualifying, Audi factory driver Tom Kristensen, the record winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with eight wins under his belt, is also at the very front of the DTM grid in France. At the "Circuit Bugatti”, the Dane in the Audi A4 DTM secured the pole position in front of Jamie Green (Mercedes) with a lead of eight hundredths of a second. The next position is occupied by Audi team-mate Mattias Ekström. The leader of the standings, Timo Scheider, achieved fifth place on the grid in his Audi A4 DTM, and will thus be going into the race directly behind his immediate championship rival Paul di Resta (Mercedes).

Nogaro: Aston Martin and Corvette Claim Pole Positions

After two hectic qualifying sessions on the 3.6km Nogaro circuit, pole position for race 7 of the FIA GT3 European Championship was claimed by the No.8 Hexis Racing Aston Martin DBRS9, ahead of two Matech GT Racing Ford GT entries - the No.19 car claimed second, with the No.21 car third. And for race 8 the No.1 Martini Callaway Corvette Z.06R GT3 took pole by the narrowest of margins from the No.10 Hexis Racing Aston Martin, with the Championship-leading No.20 Matech Ford GT in third.

There was plenty of drama in the opening race at Nogaro, a race which saw Thomas Accary and Pierre-Brice Mena took their first win of the season in the No.8 Hexis Racing Aston Martin DBRS9. In the ninth race of the 2008 FIA GT3 European Championship they led home the No.20 Matech GT Racing Ford GT of Luca Pirri and Jürgen von Gartzen, with third place going to Michael Petit and Dino Lunardi in the No.13 JMB Racing Ferrari F430 GT3.

The Saleen and SRT Corvettes could not match the pace of the front runners

Qualifying for the eighth round of the 2008 FIA GT Championship saw Phoenix Carsport driver Marcel Fässler claim his fourth pole position of the season. The Swiss driver, who shares his car with fellow countryman Jean-Denis Deletraz, put in a fine lap of 1:23.703, fractionally faster than last year’s pole time. “It is amazing to do the fastest lap in qualifying,” Fässler commented. “It is always a good start for the race weekend. But as we know tomorrow is another day. However, we’ll try to win, as we still have a small chance to get the Championship, but we need a really perfect weekend to stay in the race for the battle. We also hope our sister car will be close to the Maserati cars tomorrow.”

The battle that everyone expected at Petit Le Mans powered by the Totally New MAZDA6 lived up to its billing. Audi remained unbeaten at Road Atlanta as Allan McNish, Dindo Capello and Emanuele Pirro spotted the field two laps at the start of the race but came back for a stunning victory in the 11th annual 1,000-mile/10-hour endurance classic.
