ALMS
News and rumour has been going around for a while about the Cosworth entry into the ALMS.
Now this link seems to be growing stronger. It can be assumed that ALMS and the Champ Car World Series (CCWS) want a partnership at races (ie Long Beach and Road America spring to mind) but how does a nice tie in come to pass? Who has what to gain. CCWS, who basically own Cosworth now have a bunch of man hours spare since no one will want their engines in F1 next year. They also want to protect their business and keep going racing. A logical spot would be in the ALMS and LMS. So Cosworth could have a ‘factory’ effort soon in the ALMS to see if they can create a customer base for the engine. It also has the advantage of strengthening the ties between CCWS and the ALMS – giving a nice advantage to race partnerships and the like.
FMSC thinks this one will probably happen. It is in the interests of all parties and will also make the ALMS racing better. Whether it happens in 2007 or 2008 is still unknown. It could be an LMP1 engine too – what better way to show the power of CCWS than winning outright at Sebring or Petit? See – notice the tie in.
