ALMS
Rumour and information has come to light regarding entries for Spyker, Ferrari and Lexus for the 2007 ALMS GT2 championship.
Spyker to join the American Championship in their huge worldwide racing efforts??
Spyker Squadron will now prepare themselves for the 2007 season. Two new cars will be built and the team will focus on the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Le Mans Series. The Squadron is also talking with other teams that might run the C8 Spyder GT2R’s in the American Le Mans Series.
This exert from the Spyker race report from Dubai seems to suggest that Spyker are entering the 2007 ALMS season. It is most likely a private effort with other internet reports pointing to a Swedish deal to enter the Dutch car in the series. One thing is for sure - it will not be a factory effort - with the F1 and LMS efforts confirmed, the Spyker kitty will be fairly empty. As for the drivers for this ALMS effort, one cannot speculate without knowing how much money the private backers have but one hopes for professional drivers like those seen in the LMS effort.
More Ferrari's to the ALMS??
Further rumours have been seen about the possibility of more Ferrari 430's in the ALMS championship next year. It is understood that it will be US teams bringing the additional Ferrari's to the grid next year. More on this as it comes to light.
PTG to resurrect Lexus GT2 program??
With the late withdrawal of the Lexus campaign for 2007, the cars that have been designed and shakendown are left without a team for the moment. As for the same moment, team PTG is left without a car after BMW withdrew factory support for next year. This match is a good one providing money for the Lexus effort is found. The cars would be popular with the crowd and ALMS officials who want greater diversity in the grid. If Spyker and Ferrari have additional cars, next year's GT2 grid could be quite a good one.
