- Jacques Villeneuve told us in a TV interview that"We had an overheating problem, so we had to get our braking done early and then 'roll' the car into the corners. We solved that, but then it started raining. Our car is difficult - you get the power down coming out of corners and it snaps around, which makes it harder to overtake the slower cars. Tom Kristensen was my team-mate in Formula Three, and even back then he was bl**dy quick in the wet!"
- The Dome ran straight on at a corner and hit a tyre wall head on. Fortunately of the Japanese squad, the damage was not severe and the car was driven back to the pits, repaired and is back out on track
- The rain was a blessing for Audi who started to lap about 5-10 seconds quicker than the Peugeot. The #2 Audi took the lead and extended the lead to about a minute around the end of the hour
- The #21 Epsilon Euskadi was back into the pits. After fairly major work to the rear of the car earlier in the race, the car was getting more attention to the rear, but it did come back out on track
