Drivers are hoping for better weather then the last time they were at Eastern Creek
The fight for the Australian GT Championship continues this weekend at Sydney’s Eastern Creek Circuit (July 12-13). As the most exotic category in Australian motor sport, the recently re launched and re branded Australian GT Championship has performed a review process that now sees cars competing for the GT Championship, together with the GT Challenge, and GT production classes.
Proof of the positive reaction to the changes made by the GT category management together with the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport is the calibre of the field that will take to ultra-fast Eastern Creek layout.
AUSTRALIAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP
Not only will all four examples of the Gallardo model Lamborghini in the country be competing, but they will be pitted against two Aston Martin DBRS9’s with the John Kaias driven machine joined by the newly arrived JMC Motorsport entry to be piloted by Peter Hackett. In the Lamborghini ranks Ted Huglin will make his national debut in his yellow Gallardo, while Ross Lilley, Ian Palmer and Mark Eddy will also be competing in these Italian Supercars.
The Ferrari ranks are also strong with John Teulan’s Ferrari 430 fully re-built after the engine bay fire it suffered at the Melbourne GP meeting together with the similar car of David Stevens who was in devastating form last time out.
The Lotus marque should also provide plenty of great racing with Scott Bargwanna set to battle it out with his usual co-driver Peter Lucas, both of them in identical Elise models. Bargwanna will be driving the machine owned by David and Tim Mackie, while Angelo Lazaris will be competing in his Exige GT3.
AUSTRALIAN GT CHALLENGE
The Porsche 996 Cup Car contingent is strong with entries from Mark Krashos, Greg Ward, and Anthony Kosseris, while Richard Kimber will make his debut in the Championship in the ex-Kim Burke Porsche 996.
Kimber’s team mate is Kim Burke making a welcome return to GT competition in a new 997 GT3 Clubsport. Also returning to the fray after the Clipsal 500 Adelaide round is South Australian driver Graeme Cook in the stunning yellow RSR Porsche, while Nick O’Halloran (Ferrari 360 Challenge) makes is debut in the category with Maranello Motorsport the team that assisted Allan Simonsen to the 2007 GT Champion ship title.
AUSTRALIAN GT PRODUCTION
Rounding out the 19 car field will be Tim Poulton (Lotus Exige S) in the GT
