Spa 24h: The Last 12 Hours

Hour 24

  • When the checkered flag fell at the end of the Total 24 Hours of Spa it was the Vitaphone Racing and BMS Scuderia Italia teams which emerged victorious. Vitaphone's exploits were particularly impressive - they scored maximum points, being in first and second places at each of the three times when points were awarded
  • The G3 win was taken by the nr 123 Mühlner Motorsport Porsche 997 GT3 Cup S.

Hour 23

  • More rain fell and stopped again, seeing more pitstops for wets, then slicks
  • The #174 Sport Garage Ferrari stopped out on track with technical issues, however the driver was trying to repair the car. To come this far and not to finish would be heartbreaking



Hour 22

  • The rain again fell, this time heavily enough to make some drivers head for pit lane to change to wets.

Hour 21

  • The #6 Phoenix Corvette re-emerges from the pit lane. The driver – Gollin smelled petrol and brought the car in. A separate fire broke out in the car, damaging the brake system

Hour 20

  • The #6 Phoenix Corvette came into the Pits with fire in the dashboard. The fire was put out without injury and the pit lane was closed for a short time. This development meant that at that time, only five GT1 cars remained in the race
  • The #182 JMB Ferrari returned to the track, seeing the Coupe du Roi class again underway

Hour 19

  • The #10 Gigawave Aston Martin pitted with a small fire in the left front wheel arch. This was quickly extinguished and the car continued without losing a place
  • The #59 Trackspeed Porsche officially retired

Hour 18

  • The #1 Vitaphone Maserati and the #77 BMS Scuderia Italia Ferrari let GT1 and GT2 respectively at ¾ distance
  • The #70 Easy Race Ferrari retired after going off at the last chicane

Hour 17

  • The #70 Easy Race Ferrari and the #106 Delahaye Ferrari both pitted to repair crash damage – from separate incidents
  • The #123 and #160 Prospeed Porsches both needed to have their driveshafts replaced

Hour 16

  • The #1 Vitaphone Maserati took the lead back from the #2 Vitaphone Maserati
  • The #8 IPB Lamborghini had light contact with a barrier but was able to continue
  • The #102 McDonalds Porsche withdrew after a fire on track. This signalled the end of the G2 class battle as all the other cars had retired
  • #122, #75 and #145 all had minor accidents but could continue

Hour 15

  • The sun rose over Spa and a there was some minor contact between cars but, otherwise the hour was relatively quiet

Hour 14

  • The #8 IPB Lamborghini stopped that the entry to the pit lane with gearbox problems, the pit lane would be closed for four laps while the car made its way to its pitbox
  • The #2 Vitaphone Maserati tok the lead from the #1 Vitaphone Maserati
  • The #115 S-Berg Lamborghini retired with technical faults

Hour 13

  • The #75 Juniper Racing Porsche lost 20 minutes to replace a rear wing
  • The #123 Muhlner Porsche and the #122 car both came into the pits to repair body work
  • The #108 Ice Pol Racing Team retired with gearbox problems
