Goring again dominated the Lites One class
BOWMANVILLE, Ontario. August 24 – Jonathan Goring continued his dominance of the Lites One class at Mosport International Raceway leading the entire IMSA Lites presented by Hankook race.
Jordan Taylor passed point leader Tom Drewer to take the Lites Two lead on lap seven. Eric Vassian finished second in the class with Drewer finishing third.
“Going down the back straight he went to the inside and I had a good run and went to the outside,” Taylor said. “I managed to outbreak him going into turn eight and from there I just pulled away.”
At the front of the field Goring opened up a 9.8 second lead before the yellow flag flew halfway through the race. The caution period allowed second place Joel Feinberg to close up on Goring.
The caution period also tightened up the battle between Lucas Downs, Charlie Shears and Matt Downs for the last spot on the podium. Lucas Downs held off Shears to claim third place for the second time this weekend.
Kelly Toombs, racing in the Lites Three class, passed Chris Funk a the start of the race to take the lead and held on for his second win of the season. At times Funk was right behind Toombs, but late in the race the faster Lites Ones cars split the KC Racing teammates and Toombs opened a six-second lead.
The next stop on the IMSA Lites presented by Hankook series schedule is Petit LeMans October 2-3 at Road Atlanta.
