RUMOUR: ALMS - Announcements, Manufacturer Speculation and Why is the ACO in Detroit?

You don't get weekends as exciting as this one very often with Acura and Corsa announcing their plans for the future but there is still a lot to fall into place for next year.

Lets go in some kind of order...

Andretti Green Racing
Conspicuous by their absence from the Acura announcement, they are said to be playing hard ball or begging Acura for minor factory support (this does differ to who you talk to but we suspect it is somewhere in the middle) but a win will surely not hurt their chances of staying LMP2, but do Acura want two cars in P2 - time will tell...

Audi
Still reported to be building the R15 and the R10 will be mothballed next year. In any case we expect them to be back as a factory effort and don't expect to see any private Audi's for many years yet...

Corvette
Still to confirm that they will return in a factory spec next year. They could move to P1 though and put their engines in the back of a customer car, whether they will do this is in question but GM is not doing so well financially and don't want to compete against themselves in GT1. There is some thought that the ACO representatives are in Detroit to talk to GM as they did not attend the Acura or Corsa announcements...

Dyson
Speed TV are reporting that they are looking at running one RS Spyder and a Lola Coupe next year - could be interesting if they do...

Porsche
We are still hearing that the Penske squad will not be returning next year and Speed TV are reporting that their cars could go to Walker. Including the cars from Europe this is four RS Spyders up for sale and only around half the RS Spyders built raced. But the Walker rumours have been round for a while and this could have a strong connection to a certain 'Mansell' family.

Others
Scott Atherton the ALMS president spoke to Autobloggreen and outlined that two new manufacturers could enter the ALMS next year, because they were interested in the Green Challenge. No word on who they could be but could it be Toyota, Nissan or maybe Fiat or Jaguar or even someone else...
