The LMS season may be over but Charouz Aston Martin are keeping busy
Yamamoto And Primat Tested Charouz LMP1 Car
Formula 1 test driver Sakon Yamamoto and Harold Primat tested Charouz Racing System prototype at Brno this week. They shared the Aston Martin powered LMP1 prototype. The Japanese driver of the ING Renault F1 team ran in both dry and wet conditions. Primat drove only on Wednesday when the track was dry.
"We wanted to test both Sakon and Harold as a possible drivers for next year," said team principal Antonin Charouz. "Both showed that they are very good drivers. We will stay in touch as we are also with Portuguese Miguel Ramos who is also in the frame for next year.
Both drivers were in Brno for the first time and also both sampled closed LMP1 prototype for the first time. "I like the experience with the team. The car is special. It is nice to drive although it understeered a bit at the beginning. I have contract with ING Renault F1 team as their third driver for the current season and I do not know what will be next year. I glad that I had been invited by Antonin Charouz to this test and would happily accept a full time offer," said Sakon.
Paris born, Swiss living Harold (www.haroldprimat.com) also enjoyed the test. "I must say that it is the best car that I have ever driven," said 33 years old driver who raced for Pescarolo sport this year. "The prototype has excellent handling and is very driveable. I was happy to accept Antonin Charouz’s offer to test and it would be nice if we will do something more."
Charouz Racing And Aston Martin Racing Will Try To Set New Brno Track Record
Czech motorsport fans can look forward to see a real delicacy during the weekend. The Autumn Prix of Brno will see a special run of the Aston Martin powered LMP1 prototype with Jan Charouz behind the wheel. He will try to set a new unofficial track record. Official track record is 1:47,296 was set in 2006 by Alex Yoong during the A1GP race.
Unofficial best time set David Coulthard with McLaren-Mercedes F1 when he clocked 1:36,77. The track was resurfaced during the last winter so all records were cleared.
“Our attempt to set a new track record is mainly to show Czech fans our car because they could have seen us only on TV or had to travel abroad. We will run the car in the break between races 11.20 - 12.25 otherwise our prototype will be displayed in the paddock,” says Jan, who has reached top speed 283 km/h during Wednesday test when the car already broken the current benchmark.
