As previously reported, there could be a change at Penske Porsche next year - a major one with Porsche withdrawing manufacturer support.
It has recently been reported, however that Penske has applied to keep the numbers '6' and '7' for 2009.
But does this represent a changing in the attitude by Porsche towards this program (also as speculated by us not so long ago)?
The popular opinion (as originally reported by SpeedTV) is that, no Porsche will not change their plans despite some Executives of the company wanting to continue the program.
It has been suggested that Dyson will receive some additional support from Porsche but not to the extent that Penske has enjoyed.
So, we come back to the question of what will Penske race next year if they have applied for the car numbers.
Could this be a link to the previously reported story of two additional manufacturers entering the ALMS in 2009?
We think it could be. We just don't see why Penske would attempt a program without manufacturer support - unless he has a mega-bucks sponsor wanting ALMS at this point - unlikely.
But who then are these manufacturers that could enter the series? Nissan (Infiniti)? Toyota (Lexus)? Hyundai? Someone else?
Place your bets here...
Of course Penske could do a Grand Am program instead (as well?)
