It seems GT2 will still be strong in the 2009 ALMS as more cars are getting announced.

The latest announcement has come from VICI Racing. On their website they have confirmed that they are looking forward to the 2009 season. But one sentence in their release tells of better news.

"Next year we will run a full season with three cars. We’re now looking forward to getting our hands on the new 2009-specification [Porsche 911 GT3] RSR."

You may ask why this is a rumour - and well, with the current economic conditions, I am playing things safe - but 3 cars from VICI would be great news for the ALMS.
