LM24: Notes After Qualifying


  • A few minutes after 18.30 during the Formula Le Mans qualifying, the #12 Exagon Racing driven by Sebastien Dumez violently hit the barrier at Tertre Rouge.

    There was so much damage that the Formula Le Mans session was stopped and the 24 Hours first qualifying session will be delayed to 19h25.

  • The Audi R15 LM P1 driven by Alexander Premat started its first run only at 19.50 , because it suffered from a steering rack problem. At 20.05 , it was in 5th place (3.30.436).
  • After spending a long time in its pit, the #35 Pescarolo Mazda driven by Karim Aljani went off the track at Arnage. Minor damage was caused to the LM P2 car which currently lies in 26th overall position.
  • The Pescarolo Sport driver returned to his pit after he damaged his left front bodywork. He actually lost control of the #17 Peugeot at the Tertre Rouge corner. He drove slowly to rejoin the track, with his front left wing missing and the wheel completely exposed.
  • On his first lap of qualifying, the Indian driver could not avoid the gravel trap. At the Indianapolis corner, Narain Karthikeyan went straight off in the #14 Team Kolles Audi R10. After 2 minutes, the Audi finally made it out of the gravel, and headed straight to the pits to be checked over.
    Shortly after, Patrick Dempsey, who plays Dr Shepherd the TV show "Grey's Anatomy", also went into the gravel bed. The #81 Ferrari F430 entered by the Italian team Advanced Engineering spun on the track, and ended up in the gravel trap. The American actor managed to bring the car back to its pit with no visible damage.
