It was a mixed hour for Audi - the #3 having the bad luck
The situation at 5 hours
- Both #1 and #2 Audi's have changed their nose section to try a new aerodynamic configuration.
- The #40 Ginetta Zytek has retired after going off at Arnage. The car had had another spin a few laps beforehand. With damaged bodywork and a ripped off suspension, the Portuguese team decided to call it a day. This is the third retirement so far. It was announced at 18:47, and Miguel Amaral was the final driver of the car.
- After spending 6 minutes in its garage, the #009 Lola Aston Martin has rejoined the track with Stuart Hall at the wheel. This extended stop was caused by water leaking into the cockpit ! The car is now 43rd overall, last in the LM P1 category.
- At 19:12, Rinaldo Capello set the best lap time today for the #1 car in 3:28.520. The nose change which was done during the last pit stop seems to have had some positive effect, as the car is now regularly lapping in under 3 minutes and 30 seconds, and catching up with the two leading Peugeot #8 and #9 cars.
- The 2 Peugeot 908 HDIs came in together for a tyre change under the safety car. The drivers did change over , with Stéphane Sarrazin handing to Sebastien Bourdais leading the field in the #8 car, and David Brabham third overall in the #9 car handing over to Alex Wurz.
- The #75 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR was stopped on the Hunaudières following a fuel pump problem. After a long discussion with the mechanics from Team Endurance Asia, the driver finally managed to bring the car back to the pits. The car is currently last in the GT2 category. Porsche is keeping a close eye on this problem, as Ferrari are now second and third in the category.
- Sébastien Bourdais took over the #8 Peugeot 908 Hdi FAP during the Safety Car period. The car is in the lead, and one lap ahead of the #9 Peugeot which is now driven by Alexander Wurz. The Safety Car situation is lifted after 23 minutes.
- During the Safety Car period, the #3 Audi, driven by Timo Bernhard, was spotted running slowly on the pit straight. The German driver completed the lap, then came straight back into the pits. The front and rear ends of the car are off, and the driver has also got out of it.
- At 19:32, Pierre Kaffer, driving the #82 Risi Ferrari F430 GT was given a stop & go penalty because all four wheels left the track at Mulsanne
