The Peugeot team spent more time in the pits in hour 6 then they would have liked
The state of play after 6 hours
- Just after the Ford chicane, the #26 Radical AER was literally pushed over by the #009 Lola Aston Martin driven by Stuart Hall. Contact was inevitable. The Radical spun, before badly hitting the safety barrier with the rear end.
Broken rear right suspension, blown rear right tyre, ripped off rear wing... The car only had 3 wheels to get back into its pits one lap later.
The accident brought about a Safety Car situation. The three works Peugeots immediately pitted, as did the #17 Pescarolo Peugeot 908, as well as Audis #1 and #2. - Keisuke Kunimoto, one of the two Japanese drivers of the #5 Navi Team Goh Porsche RS Spyder took away the lead from the #31 Team Essex car which was leading the category from the start. The driver of the #5 car drove beautifully, and overtook the category leader in the second chicane on the Hunaudières. Kristian Poulsen was driving the Team Essex Danish RS Spyder, which he shares with fellow Dane Casper Elgaard and Frenchman Emmanuel Collard
- The #76 Imsa Performance Matmut Porsche came into the pits, and was immediately wheeled into its garage. The mechanics started working on the airbox which was no longer airtight. Five minutes later, Raymond Narac was back out, but he no longer leads the category.
- After Raymond Narac's problems on the #76 Porsche, Ferrari is now the category leader with the #82 Risi Competizione F430 GTC. The team was the category winner last year, and the car is driven this year by Jaime Melo Jnr, Mika Salo and Pierre Kaffer. Second and third are the #92 JMW Motorsport and #78 AF Corse SRL cars, all on the same lap.
- Bourdais, Wurz and Pagenaud have increased the pace. The driver of the Pescarolo Sport Peugeot has just moved to fifth overall, overtaking the #007 and #008 Lola Aston Martins. He then came into the pits, and handed over to Benoit Tréluyer.
- The AMR Eastern Europe LM P1 has just picked up a puncture to the rear right while going down the Hunaudières straight. The car which was lying sixth overall has dropped one place to Benoit Tréluyer in the #17 Pescarolo Peugeot 908.
- At 20:46, Sébastien Bourdais came into the pits and the car was immediately wheeled into its garage. He was previously lapping in 3:25.106, and suddenly lapped in 4:01.800.
The mechanics are currently changing the left rear axle.
