The race for the second LAA car ended in this hour
The state of play after 8 hours
- The #72 car driven by Patrice Goueslard has violently hit the wall in the Tertre Rouge esses. The Corvette, which was 3rd in LM GT1, will probably not rejoin.
Since Luc Alphand Aventures has take part in the 24 Hours with these American sport cars, it will be his first ever retirement, even if it’s not official yet.
- The driver of the #72 Luc Alphand Corvette had a nasty accident at Tertre Rouge. In a state of shock, he tells us what happened
"I don't know who pushed me off of the track, but at that speed, I can only imagine an LM P1. I don't understand what happened, I didn't even see a blue flag being waved. The impact with the safety barrier was almost head on, and quite hard. I had a nasty blow. But on top of that, I'm really sorry for the team. Gutted, really..." - At 21.42, the F430 GT of the Italian team goes into its pit when it was 33rd overall and 2nd in LM GT2.
Gianmaria Bruni was complaining about imprecise steering so the crew changed the power steering.
As this team has been the FIA GT2 champion for the past 3 seasons, it’s one of the favourites for this weekend.
- The British Lola Aston LM P1 went into its garage at 22.15 for a left front hub change. The car driven by Darren Turner rejoined 11 minutes later, being now in 12th place.
- At 22:06, Richard Dean brings his #6 Ginetta Zytek back to the pits with a stuck real left wheel. This was caused by an overheating problem, and the mechanics had to change the brake disc and pads. 10 minutes later, the car rejoined the track in 23rd position.
- Although it was only 80 seconds behind the leading Peugeot, Tom Kristensen had to bring his Audi back for an unscheduled pit stop. The car was kept at a standstill for 3 minutes. The mechanics were hovering around the car, and they were seen to send compressed air into the engine compartment. This pit stop will change the leader board, the Dane losing his second place. He ends up 31 seconds behind the #8 Peugeot driven by Bourdais. The leading men have a very long night coming up.
