LM24: After 19 Hours

Audi #1 is still in third and the best of the Audis at this stage

The state of play after 19 hours

  • At 09h08 the #81 Ferrari F430 GT rejoins for the second time in a few laps after some bonnet fixing problems. The car is still being driven by the TV actor who is running in aid of “Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque” and so continues to accumulate money for this charity.

  • At the end of the 289th lap, Tom Kristensen drives the first of the two remaining Audi R15 TDI's into its garage.

“The race this morning is difficult for us. Main problem is overheating in the turbo system, so we have to come back regularly into the garage for a complete clear out of dust, gravel, rubber, carbon, etc which are obstructing all the ventilation holes.”

  • The LM P1 spent some time in its garage and the mechanics changed lots of parts such as alternator, battery, coil and left rear brake disk.

Danny Watts rejoins in 22nd place and 13rd LM P1, being passed by the #24 Pescarolo Mazda driven by Jacques Nicolet during its pit stop.

  • Harold Primat crashed the Lola Aston Martin works car at post 115b while he was 29th. The car started to catch fire and the Clerk of the Course sent out the safety car.

The Swiss driver is OK but has been taken away by ambulance as a precaution. He may be quite tired with the long runs he has had to do caused by the exclusion of the 3rd driver of their line-up, Stuart Hall after his incident yesterday with the Radical LM P2.

The Safety car goes back in on the 300th lap at 9.49 AM

  • The Kolles driver of the #15 Audi R10 TDI spins under safety car conditions on the Mulsanne straight and drives slowly back to his pit from 10th place on his 282nd lap.
