IMSA's chance of a podium was dealt a fatal blow in the 21st hour
The situation after 21 hours
- The 911 Imsa Matmut 997 driven by Porsche works driver Pat Long pits because he has gear box problems. He reported to his mechanics that he heard strange noises every time he changed gear.
The Imsa Performance team open up the gearbox and try to locate the problem, so they can fix it and get the car to the finish.
- The Strakka Racing car, in the hands of Danny Watts, is currently in its garage because of a broken driveshaft. In 22nd place overall, the team has no great expectations, but they are determined to make it to the finish line.
At 11.11 AM, the car rejoins.
- On his 3rd stint, Allan McNish was forced to pit and a mechanic promptly changes the steering wheel on the cars 324th lap of the race, 3 laps less than the leading #9 Peugeot.
This car has already had an ECU change and the worry is it may need another - Just one lap after McNish stopped for a steering wheel change, the Audi R15 TDI is in again and has a new driver, Rinaldo Capello who has had an earnest conversation with Tom Kristensen, while the mechanics investigate the rear of the car which involves the whole pit crew. Meanwhile Tomas Enge driving the #007 Aston becomes ever closer.
