LM24: After 24 Hours

KSM cruelly won't reach the flag, after retiring inside the last hour

The situation after 24 hours

  • It came out at 13h47 after the #5 Seiji Ara crash in the Playstation chicane. The 7th of the race.

  • The #39 Lola Mazda B05/40 was having problems for the last few laps, and it then started to leak oil at the Playstation chicane. Just as the car was coming into the pit lane, the LM P2 came to a standstill with the engine smoking. Hideki Noda was behind the wheel.

The marshals and firemen had to put out several fires before the car was extinguished and pushed back into its pit.

  • At 14h40 the remaining works car who leads the LM GT1 class pits for their traditional “wash and polish” stop just before the finish on its last appearance at Le Mans.
  • With little over half an hour to go, the #008 Lola Aston Martin, was running slowly and was having problems with its gearbox. It looked as though the car wouldn't make it to the chequered flag. But the mechanics had decided otherwise ! The car finally made it back on the track, in 15th overall position, and it looks as though Darren Turner will be taking the finish flag after all. Congratulations to the mechanics for their great work and efforts.
  • Having been in its pit because of a gearbox problem, the LM P1 Speedy Racing Team Sebah Lola Judd eventually rejoined to run the last lap and take the chequered flag. It will be in 11th place overall and 10th place in the LM P1 class.
