News today from the Le Mans Series, GT racing from the UK and testing from Portugal.
- A1 GP Team Malaysia could be switching their efforts to sportscars it has been reported by Motors TV. Given A1GP's recent and ongoing financial issues, many teams and sponsors are looking elsewhere. A1 Team Malaysia are looking at a Lola package in P1 or P2 with one of their regular drivers.
- In a blow to the British GT Championship, the GT Cup has been given national status by the MSA in the UK. While professional racers will not be elegible for the Series, the list of machinery elegible, including (group 1)Porsche 997 GT3 Cup, Lotus Europa, Morgan Aero8 and Ferrari Challenge GT, (group 2) will feature vehicles including the BMW M3, Porsche 996 GT3, Ferrari 360GT and the Ginetta G50, and group three will be pegged to the pace of FIA GT4 homologated cars such as the Lotus 211, BMW Z4, Nissan 350Z and the KTM X-Bow - is impressive.
During 2008 and 2009, the Series managed consistent 30 car grids - much more impressive than the 14 car grids of British GT.
- Earlier this month we reported that Michelin was tyre testing. Well now we can report that Dunlop was testing too - this time in Estoril. Teams testing included Quifel ASM, Bruichladdich Bruneau (despite the car being for sale), the Lolas of the Swiss Speedy/Sebah and a factory BMW M3 GT2.
