Can we expect a GT2 team to bow out of the Series soon?
Worrying rumours have emerges suggesting that a major GT2 team in the ALMS GT2 field will not return in 2009.
With the full time GT2 teams we have on offer, some are better candidates than others.
We could rule out Rahal Letterman Racing and Risi Competitiozne as rumours are rife about 4 BMW cars in the Series next year and Risi are still strong after winning a couple of Le Mans races over the past few years.
We could also rule out Flying Lizard Motorsports as they are a traditionally strong team. Robertson Racing are also increasing their racing efforts after a trip to Japan and their increasing competitiveness throughout the year.
Corvette too seem committed with their new cars for the foreseeable future.
Teams we can't rule out is Farnbacher Loles, Primetime and PTG.
Lets start with Farnbacher Loles. Many think that this team isn't the one being talked about as this team has already been written off. This team has announced much of their plans but ALMS was not a part of it.
Primetime too have been rumoured for a long while to disband their Viper effort and move to LMPC.
That means that PTG is the prime candidate. Despite announcing that they will enter the Series in 2010 with an EVO verson of the Panoz, the car is old and the team has been struggling for a couple of years now. Moreover, Murphy the Bear has suggested that their transporters and equipment are for sale.
So PTG, it seems, is the front runner.
We do hope that this rumour is not true but we will bring you more as it comes.
