
Allan Simonsen won his class in Classic Adelaide
More from the weekend in sports and touring car racing events including Australian V8 Supercars, Classic Adelaide, Formula Le Mans Winter Series and the Vallelunga 6 Hours.
- It was a 888 Engineeering display at the second last round of the Australian V8 Supercar Series. Series leader, Jamie Whincup started second, next to his 888 team mate Craig Lowndes. Whincup would win the first race and Lowndes the second. With one round to go Whincup has the 2009 Title within his grasp, as his rival, HRT's Will Davidson had a poor weekend, failing to finish race 2
- The Classic Adelaide has concluded. You may recall that the event was marred by the death of one of the driving teams. Nevertheless, the event went on with the winners of the catagories being:
Late Classic (1972-1990)
1. Kevin Weeks/Bec Crunkhorn -1974 Porsche 911RSModern (1991-current)
1. Allan Simonsen/Matt Lee – 2007 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9
(yes that Allan Simonsen - the one that raced for the Hankook Farnbacher team this year)Classic (1948-1971)
1. Rob Devenish/Lyn Carr – 1971 Datsun 240ZHistoric (1900-1947)
1. John Lawson/Andrew Lawson – 1936 Delage Le Mans - The 6 Hours of Vallelunga was run and won with the Racing Box Lola B08/80 Judd winning over all. The car was driven by Thomas Biagi, Filippo Francioni and Edoardo Piscopo. Valentino Rossi, driving a GT2 Ferrari impressed his competitors with his on track skills with Biagi commenting "I wanted to see how he got on on four wheels and was surprised how good he was; he really is a class apart." Biagi followed Rossi for a lap to really see how the MotoGP ace could drive a car!
- The Formula Le Mans Winter Series got under way at Circuit Paul Ricard with Hope PoleVision taking Round 1 by winning two of the three weekend races. Fischer Racing's Ford GT was the strongest GT car of the weekend
