Strakka Confirms Switch to Acura for 2010

Strakka will have their third new car in three years

Strakka Racing has confirmed its move to Acura for the 2010 Le Mans Series. The team will compete in an Acura ARX-01 LMP2 sports prototype.

The team was widely expected to race this car in 2010 after testing it earlier this year. The team ran a Zytek LMP1 in the 2009 season and an Aston Martin GT1 car in 2008.

"The move to HPD has been a logical step for us," suggests Piers Phillips, Team Manager at Strakka. "We examined all the options open to us, and swiftly recognised that HPD offered us a relationship and product that would give us the best opportunity to move forward with a serious manufacturer. We also felt it was sensible for us to aim for the top in LMP2, rather than attempt another season in LMP1, where the situation looks set to become increasingly dominated by factory squads."

"We are very pleased to welcome Strakka Racing to the HPD family of race teams," said Stephen Eriksen, HPD Technical Director. "Strakka Racing have a clear direction for their evolution as a team, and we are pleased to be able to support them in their desired direction."

Strakka joins JAS in racing Acuras in the Le Mans Series in 2010 - and of course Highcroft will race the Acura in the ALMS - but under the HPD banner.

Danny Watts and Nick Leventis will race for the team and more testing on the car will occur in the new year.
