News in Brief for 14 March

Rast had a good start to his 2010 Porsche Mobil1 Supercup season

Today we have news from the GT1 World Championship, Australia's new Sports Racer Series, Porsche Supercup and Sebring updates!

  • It has been announced that the FIA GT1 World Championship and the GT3 European Championship will run to the following point system:

    1st 25 points
    2nd 18 points
    3rd 15 points
    4th 12 points
    5th 10 points
    6th 8 points
    7th 6 points
    8th 4 points
    9th 2 points
    10th 1 point

This is of course the same point system that F1 and WRC will run to in 2010

  • Rene Rast won from Stefan Rosina and Jan Seyffarth in race 1 of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup in Bahrain while Rast took 2 from 2 in race 2. Jeroen Bleekemolen and Nicholas Tandy made up the podium in race 2
  • The inaugural weekend of Australia's new 'Sports Racing Series' was held this weekend on the streets of Adelaide with three races. This Series is like a Speed Series or VdeV Prototype field with the field being made up by Wests, Radicals, Minetti and so on.

The first round had 19 entries with Josh Hunt winning all three races in his West WR1000. We hope to bring you more news from this 6 round Series throughout the year.

  • A bit of news leading up to Sebring:
    - as you may have heard, the Black Swan Porsche will skip Sebring while they tyre test. They are still aiming to race in the rest of the season
    - Peugeot have crashed in testing at Sebring. No one was hurt but it is unclear just how much damage there was - although we are not hearing anything that threatens their race
    - RSR Jaguar were hoping to get a second car to Sebring but it doesn't look like it will make it in time
