It was an unexpected pole for the Larbre Ferrari

The final qualifying session of the 2006 FIA GT Championship saw a surprise pole position for the Larbre Ferrari 550 Maranello Evo. This car has not competed in the FIA GT in 2006 and was wheeled out for the last round in Dubai. Of course this car has experienced success before, as has Gabriele Gardel, who is a former FIA GT Champion. This result is a surprise as they were the only car to break the 1:56 barrier.
Next on the grid is the two BMS Aston Martins with the CLPK-Carsport Corvette rounding out the second row. In a tightly packed grid, the Vitaphone Racing Maserati MC12’s could only manage 5th and 7th overall with a time just a few tenths off pole. The GT1 runners were rounded out by the Zakspeed Saleen S7R in ninth place.
This left the tenth overall and GT2 pole to the Scuderia Ecosse Ferrari 430 GT. Lapping the circuit at a time of 2:01.260, the Scottish squad will be continuing their season long battle with the AF Course Ferraris. Third in GT2 is the first of the Spyker Squadron entries, less than a second away from the Scuderia Ecosse car. The G2 car from Gilet is not racing this weekend, however a number of G3 runners are competing with the BMS Aston Martins leading a JMB Racing Ferrari 430 Challenge GT3.
